5th Grade Band Practice

5th Grade Band Practice
Forest

Forest Elementary School fifth graders recently began their 6th week of band lessons with Music Teacher Ms. Strzalka.

The percussion students practiced first with their drum pads, playing half notes and half rests while also learning a new note "Fa."

While the percussionists were practicing, Ms. Strzalka had them put their mallets down and practice the notes by clapping them out.

They then removed their drum pads from their stands and connected their glockenspiels (an instrument similar to a xylophone) to it.

The students had fun playing the "Jaws" theme together as a group.

The trombone students practiced next.

Like the previous group, the students started their session by playing half notes and half rests.

After practicing for a while they also had a chance to also play the "Jaws" theme song together.

The students are making great progress in learning their instruments!

They are excited for the full band rehearsals in a few weeks where they will be playing with band students from other District 62 schools.
