The Forest Elementary School News Club, made up of second through fifth graders, meets daily during recess under the leadership of Math Interventionist Ms. Leah Strom.

The club gives the students a chance to write, edit, research and announce all of the exciting things happening at the school every day.

Students can choose to be on camera to make announcements and present the weather, or stay behind the scenes editing content, working on graphics or researching a special story.

Each day there are special recordings, such as "Tuesday Term," Wednesday's "PBIS Example" and Thursday's "This or That."

Once the students select the job they would like for the week, it is time to work on creating the content.

The announcers talk about anything special that is happening that day, such as birthdays, what the school is serving for lunch and information on any clubs that are meeting.

The student in the role of meteorologist does their own research of the forecast and adds visuals to the broadcast such as rain clouds, the sun and even the much anticipated blood moon.

The students who serve as editors follow the script, adding visual elements to the recording such as images of food to the lunch menu and editing anything that needs to be changed or corrected.

Having students of all different ages in the News Club ensures that there is a voice from all different grade levels.

Eventually today's younger students will serve as mentors to the new students coming in.
