A Lesson in Braille and American Sign Language
In recognition of American Disabilities Week, Forest Elementary School recently partnered with an organization called Educating Outside the Lines.
Educating Outside the Lines offers disability awareness programming for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Throughout the week, different classes were taught age and developmentally appropriate lessons developed by EOTL and facilitated by the teachers.
Third graders learned about vision and hearing disabilities, becoming familiar with the tools people who are blind and deaf may use.
One of the activities the students participated in was learning American Sign Language.
The students also learned all about braille and how people with vision problems use it to read.
Principal Amy Cengel said that it was really a great experience for all!
