A Lesson in Helping Tools

A Lesson in Helping Tools
Forest

In recognition of American Disabilities Week, Forest Elementary School recently partnered with an organization called Educating Outside the Lines.

Educating Outside the Lines offers disability awareness programming for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Throughout the week, different classes were taught age and developmentally appropriate lessons developed by EOTL and facilitated by the teachers.

First graders were introduced to a variety of tools that people with disabilities may use, such as prosthetic legs, communication boards and devices, and adaptive sports equipment.

The first graders participated in several hands-on activities and watched videos to help learn about the various devices.

The students learned that the tools help someone with a disability do everything that someone without a disability can do.

Principal Amy Cengal said that it was really a great experience for all!
