Forest
Forest Elementary School's Math Club, under the director of Fifth Grade Math Teacher Mr. Matt Peebles, is open to all 4th and 5th grade students.
During their second week of Math Club, the students used the app "Prodigy" on their iPads to play interactive math games.
Mr. Peebles assigned the students different lessons within the game to help him determine where they are in their math knowledge.
The students enjoy "Prodigy" because they are assigned a character and they are able to "compete" against one another.
As they solve the problems or "win the battles," they are able to acquire different items and levels for their characters.
The students had fun showing off their items to each other, as well as working together to solve more challenging math problems.
Mr. Peebles noted that the math club's problem-solving practice has positively impacted his students' in-class performance.
