Plaster Mask Making

Plaster Mask Making
Forest

Forest Elementary School third graders in Ms. Sara Earl's art class are having fun creating their very own plaster masks.

After the students constructed the masks out of aluminum foil and tape, they layered sheets of plaster on them.

They took one sheet at a time, dipped it in water, strained it and then laid it down on an area of their mask.

As they continued layering the plaster to make their masks stronger, they made sure to smooth out all of the holes.

When the plaster was down and dry it was time to decide what base color they were going to paint their mask.

The students covered their entire mask in their base color, evenly distributing the paint all over their project.

Next week the students are looking forward to painting colorful details on their mask to make them unique.
