The Sounds of the Saxophone

Each week Forest Elementary School fifth graders meet with music teacher Ms. Gibson to learn how to play the saxophone.

This is the students very first year trying their hand at the instrument.

When rehearsal began, Ms. Gibson asked the students check to inspect their wooden mouthpieces to make sure they weren't damaged and then the musicians placed them properly on the instrument.

The students also adjusted their straps so the saxophone would fit comfortably around them.

They were now ready to start playing a few notes, making sure their instruments were in tune.

Ms. Gibson reviewed with the students what a whole note is verses a half note.

After making some notations in their music books, the students played the song "Hot Cross Buns" together.

The students are having a great time learning the instrument and look forward to the next time they meet.
